Death of Mr Owen Jones
It is with sadness that we have to report the death of Owen Jones, Upper House Farm, Kinnerton. Owen’s family first registered the Kinnerton Flock in 1950 and Owen was a lifelong supporter of the breed, being a past Chairman and President of the Society and serving on the Council for a long period.

Owen’s funeral will be held on Wednesday 8 November 2017 at 2.00pm at the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Kinnerton. We extend our sympathy to Owen’s wife Ruth and the rest of the Jones Family.

Kerry Hill Open Day - Sunday 2nd July
We had a fantastic Open Day on Sunday 2nd July - attended by many breeders, both new and old, and from far and near. We were able to take part in stock judging, hear from our inspectors about what they look for in good sheep, and see a trimming demonstration. We also had a talk about worms and worm resistance, which was very informative.

NSA Sheep South West 2017

It was the hottest day since 1976 and it is safe to say both us and the sheep were very hot in the marquees. We should have been selling ice creams!

The sheep for the stand were kindly supplied by Kate Esler and Ed Simmons from the Kingswater Flock. Alan Brimble, Martin Pearse and Martin’s mum also helped man the stand with Kate on the day.

Many farmers were busy haymaking and silaging but we still had a good number of visitors showing interest in the breed coming to the stand. With the older generation remembering when the Kerrys and Cluns used to come down from Wales on trains to Somerset as breeding ewes. It was interesting talking about how the breed has changed over the years.

We had quite a few enquiries about society sales and the Open day in a few weeks time, so hoping to see some new faces at these events in the future.

Thousands of visitors flocked to the NSA North Sheep Event where the Kerry Hill Flock Book Society had a stand. Visitors to the stand were able to see some spectacular sheep which had been kindly provided by Robert & Jean Price from the Pentrenant Flock in Churchstoke, Powys.

Cath & Martin Kewley, Robert & Jean Price, Gwilym Pugh, David Maltby and Linda Barnard were in attendance throughout the day as well as our President Mr Alan Symonds. We were all kept busy throughout the day answering questions and giving advice both to existing members and potential new members. Our new leaflet about the attributes of the Kerrys and where they could be purchased at the forthcoming sales in Ludlow, Melton Mowbray and Carlisle were given out. Several requests for sale catalogues were lodged.

Details were also provided about our forthcoming National Open Day on Sunday, 2 July 2017 by kind permission of John & Philippa Owens, Woodhouse Farm, Shobdon, Leominster, Herefordshire HR6  9NL.
Thank you to everyone who came to our stand, to those members who gave their time freely to help sell the Kerrys and to those who came to buy the merchandise and also to the many others who came to find out more about this wonderful breed.

The First outing for the breed stand this year was to the Welsh Sheep Event at Talybont on Usk.  The venue was excellent despite access being a little trying!
In spite of the weather, which was damp all day, there was a very good attendance at the event and the stand was busy all day.
Thanks must go to Edward Williams for providing the sheep for the stand and to Anthony John, Hannah Owens and Gwilym Pugh for manning the stand.
